LFW Stuart Leon Industry Talk

As soon as we arrived we were welcomed inside, treated with some refreshments and glasses of champagne. The talk started off shortly by an activity to introduce ourselves, it was interesting to see a variety of people with different interests coming to the same event.
The industry talk was held by Stuart Leon - with over 30 years of experience in London apparel industry, Stuart Leon had his story to share, especially with people who aspire to grow and learn about the fashion industry.

In celebration of the launch of London Fashion Week on Sept 13th, this event was created to take him back and share his fascinating journey in fashion. It was my pleasure meeting him and learning about his life, how far he has come and how. He has been an expert in so many areas of fashion it was overwhelming to hear all his stories.
The event was hosted inside Coast Oxford Street store, I liked the Visual Merchandising around the store, as well as the new graphics and Autumn/Winter 13 promotional photo shoots on show.
There was a powerpoint that was well presented with various old photographs from magazines, newspapers back in the 80-90s that Leon has participated in, his old photographs of family and friends. It was lovely to see old magazine covers such as Vogue, it almost seemed like the style of the clothes are still the same, that we see in most magazines today yet these were taken 30years ago!

The talk was held inside one of the 'Coast By Appointment' rooms inside the store, where usually bridesmaids, brides are being styled by Coast Stylists and to help them find that special dress or outfit.
This dress was made exclusively for London Fashion Week

As the talk went on, we were shown an example of how a dress is manufactured inside and out. This was an example of a Michegan dress from the bridesmaid collection, which was cut open to show the work that goes into one garment. Leon was talking about the differences in where the products are made and why, he mentioned some reasons why they don't just get the dresses made in one country. He explained that this is due to the fact that some countries are better with certain materials such as hand-made, embroidery is preferred when made in India, however tailored and structured material might be preferred in another country such as Romania, Russia etc.

Overall it was an inspiring talk by Stuart Leon, everyone who came seemed to be overwhelmed and happy that they did. After the talk we got to chat to people around us, grab some snacks, share our experiences, talk about our own life goals. I met a few fashion bloggers and it was lovely to talk to them too! It was a great night, always inspiring to meet people that aim high, just because.
